In the first T20 match on Friday, August 18, Team India beat Ireland to get their first win. India’s fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah who returned from injury and Prasidh Krishna showed their skill by taking two wickets each.

India’s fast bowler and captain Jasprit Bumrah returned from injury with a strong performance to restrict the Irish batsmen and keep them to a challenging score. However, the rain played its part, interrupted India’s chase at 47 for 2 in 6.5 overs.

Prasidh Krishna had an impressive T20 debut as he also took two wickets in his first match. Unfortunately, due to rain, Rinku Singh did not get a chance to show his batting skills. Barry McCarthy’s unbeaten half-century and Curtis Kampfer’s contribution saw Ireland post 139 for 7 in 20 overs but India eventually won by two runs.

In India’s first T20 match at The Village in Dublin, India decided to bowl after winning the toss. After the opening of the bowling, Bumrah promptly dismissed two Irish batsmen in the first over. The entire over of the first powerplay saw Ireland’s batsmen unable to cope with India’s formidable fast bowlers. They had to struggle for runs. India spinner Ravi Bishnoi took two wickets to add to Ireland’s woes.

Despite India’s admirable performance, all-rounders Barry McCarthy and Curtis Kampfer put on a 57-run partnership for the seventh wicket. McCarthy’s explosive 51* off 33 balls took Ireland to a competitive total. Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna and Bishnoi took two wickets each, while Arshdeep Singh contributed one wicket.

India’s innings got off to a promising start, with openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad putting on a solid 46-run partnership for the first wicket. While India avoided any shock during the powerplay, Craig Young took two wickets in the seventh over, creating a moment of uncertainty. Then, heavy rains intervened, prompting the officials to call off the 1st T20 match and handing India a two-run victory based on the DLS method.
